FAWCO

FAWCO (The Federation of American Women’s Clubs Overseas) is OUR organization!  As AWBS members, we are automatically allied with FAWCO, and that helps us in many ways.  It provides our AWBS website, offers education grants to members, gives us a credible voice in the UN and other global bodies, and provides loads of reference materials.  As FAWCO is comprised of 75 member clubs, spread across 38 countries, representing approximately 15,000 members world-wide, it can provide continuity for you if you move to other countries after your stay in the UK. You are a Member of FAWCO

Did you know that you are a member of the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO) by virtue of your membership in AWBS? Well, you are!

What this means for you:

  • You have access to the worldwide FAWCO representative directory. You could use the directory to locate someone local for your next relocation, or you could identify a fellow expat American to serve as an emergency contact in the country of your next exotic trip.
  • You have access to the FAWCO website. All you need to do is register. On the site, you will find information on important expat issues, such as U.S. citizenship, absentee voting and taxation.
  • You have access to additional educational support for your college-bound children in the form of the American Cultural Education (ACE) Task Force, which has useful information about applying to universities, as well as lessons and activities to teach American children growing up overseas about American culture.
  • You and your college-bound children are eligible to apply for scholarships through the FAWCO Foundation. Deadlines each year are in January.

FAWCO is an international network of independent organizations whose mission is:

* To serve as a resource and channel of information among its members;

* To provide a voice for American women abroad and to support the rights of all Americans worldwide;

* To contribute actively to the global community with a specific focus on education, the natural and human environment, multicultural understanding and international goodwill.

FAWCO TARGET PROJECT 2016-19: EDUCATING AND EMPOWERING REFUGEE WOMEN & GIRLS IN JORDAN (A PROJECT OF THE COLLATERAL REPAIR PROJECT)

At the FAWCO 2017 conference in April, member clubs voted Educating and Empowering Refugee Women and Girls in Jordan, a project of the Collateral Repair Project as the next 3-year target project for fundraising. Member clubs will be raising $124,500 for educational support, employment training and leadership development for refugee women and girls in Amman, Jordan. See https://www.collateralrepairproject.org/

The Selection Committee thanks all eighteen applicants for their submissions. Such a high level of participation across the FAWCO community is a testament to the importance our members place on education and the role it plays in lifting up women and girls.

Please visit the Target Project webpage to read the project summaries and to learn more about the selection process.

Moving back to North America?

FAUSA–FAWCO Alumnae USA– is a vibrant and growing association of individuals who share the common experience of having lived abroad and who have returned to North America. Open to individuals and couples, many of whom were members of FAWCO while living abroad, FAUSA strives to facilitate the repatriation experience of its members by serving as a resource for information, helping them maintain their international ties, and providing an immediate social network. As the North American arm of FAWCO, FAUSA members and their children are eligible for education awards from The FAWCO Foundation, and can participate in funding the awards, nominating a Development Grant, and supporting the FAWCO Target Programs.

Why Join FAUSA?

People living outside their home country see the world through different eyes.

Your experiences are different, your friends more diverse, your families are likely to speak another language and you are familiar with other cultures. Your perspective has changed and so have you. Back in North America you often feel like a stranger.

FAUSA offers its members:
  • Global perspective
  • Links to the expatriate world
  • Understanding forums for repatriation issues
  • Opportunities to rediscover North America
  • Social and philanthropic events

You can connect to FAUSA through the FAWCO website or at fausa.org.
