March General Meeting with Dr David R Hamilton

AWBS is on a roll with truly fantastic Guest Speakers, month after month, thanks to our VP Programs.

This month, members and guests were treated to a motivational-speaker-with-a-differnce while soaking up the history and beauty of the ballroom at the world famous Pinewood Studios, home to the James Bond franchise of films.

This was Dr David Hamilton's second time speaking with AWBS, and the Members welcomed him back with open arms (and camera phones ready for selfies). We were even LIVE on Facebook for a portion of his talk, and you can hear the joy in the room.

In his own words, “During my time in the pharmaceutical industry, I was fascinated by the placebo effect – how people improve through believing they are receiving a drug – so I began to study mind-body interactions in my spare time. I decided to leave the pharmaceutical industry after 4 years because I wanted to educate about the mind-body connection, help people to believe in themselves more, and spread a little more kindness in the world in my own way.”

And our members LOVED LOVED LOVED 'his own way' of explaining things.

We all know the concept of “Paying It Forward”, and how one simple gesture can have a powerful knock-on effect. To learn the science of HOW and WHY paying it forward works made it all the more powerful and achievable on a day to day basis. The way Dr Hamilton talks about science and evidence is lively and passionate, making it very easy to understand.  We were taken on a fantastic hour long lesson in kindness and our cardio vascular system. The buzz in the room was palpable!

Kindness makes us happier.

Kindness is good for the heart.

Kindness slows down ageing.

Kindness improves relationships.

Kindness is contagious.

Dr Hamilton acknowledged the abundance of kindness flowing from our AWBS Membership. He cited the way our Membership Team greeted members and guests to the meeting, how we support new members as they transition to life in Berkshire/Surrey, our philanthropic work with local charities, supporting local businesses PLUS whatever we do as individuals. He said he could sense how busy and kind we were.

I'd like to take this chance to say 'thank you' again for placing such trust in me as your Interim President. AWBS really is a dynamic, diverse group of women, representing over 24 nationalities, doing good ‘stuff’ in any number of ways and it's my pleasure to 'pay it foward' by doing all I can as a global nomad for those who contributed to our soft, happy landing in Surrey a mere 18 months ago.
