AWBS International Women's Club

All Women of Berkshire & Surrey
Celebrating inclusiveness and friendship

AWBS is a sisterhood of international and local women living in Berkshire and Surrey,
who come together to enhance their UK experience through fun and fulfilling
volunteer-run activities.

Activities List

Due to Coronavirus, AWBS is undergoing changes to offer an attractive number of virtual activities.  This programme is being worked on and new members are welcome to join us for these during the Summer.  We hope that meetings will start up again in the Autumn albeit in a limited format according to Government advice.

In addition to General Meetings and Special events, AWBS members can enjoy special interest activities together. Activity groups are established and organized by members who are interested in pursuing their personal interests and hobbies with other AWBS members.  We are hoping these can start up again soon but in the meantime, some will be offered via Zoom or other platforms.

Booked for Lunch (aka Book Club)

Enjoy reading and love to discuss books with others? Booked for Lunch meets once a month between September and June. The only requirement is a love of books and a commitment to read the book being discussed. There is no charge and no full year commitment.

Evening Book Club

The evening book club meets once a month and will read the same books each month as the day time Book club. Hope you can join us!

ADVENTURES ABROAD

Join a constantly changing mix of women who get together to travel abroad, explore, shop, and above all, have fun.

How to get better photos

Beginners photography tutorial day by award-winning portrait photographer. This activity will run in Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer, to make the most of the seasonal beauty. We do hope you can join us and learn to use and enjoy your camera!

Seasonal Photography Workshop For Beginners

Art Appreciation

This class is for everyone from beginners to the most seasoned art enthusiasts. Art history attracts a fun group of women interested in learning about artists’ lives, the history of their time and the meaning in their work.

English History

Learn about the rich history and culture of Britain, with four lectures and a field trip each term (autumn and spring). Occasional one-off special events are also featured.

Country Walks

We are just steps away from some of the most stunning scenery in the United Kingdom with miles of paths criss–crossing the landscape, making all areas of this charming country accessible. Walks vary from 3 to 6 miles and are typically once a month, September through May.

One of our most popular activity is Country Walks, recently completed a 6 mile walk around the beautiful River front village of Pangbourne, meandered through the rugged countryside of Chobham and around the glorious, quintessential, uncrowded, rolling green English countryside of Berkshire and the Chilterns.

The Inner Artist

Come along to this relaxed, 8 week drawing course and unlock your inner artist. Learn about perspective, proportion, shading and toning, using charcoal, graphite and coloured pencils.

Love London

Walking tours followed by lunch once a month in different London neighbourhoods. Sometimes the focus will be a geographic location, other times, a particular subject matter within London.

Mahjong

Similar to the Western card game rummy, Mahjong is a game of skill, strategy, and calculation, and involves a degree of chance. It can be easily learned yet is difficult to master! We play about every two weeks at the home of one of our members.

Potluck lunches

A fun and informal way to meet and get to know other AWBS members while enjoying yummy food and conversation. Bring a favorite starter, main dish, drink, or dessert.

Tennis

A social tennis group of all skill levels. 1.5 hour sessions take place on selected Friday mornings. We run 1or 2 Intermediate/ Advanced courts depending on demand, plus a court clinic for Improvers. All indoors!

TGIF

Co-ordinated by Membership, anyone can run one of these great opportunities to meet fellow AWBS women. Join us for drinks on random Fridays -- check the schedule. All are welcome. No need to pre-book.

AWBS International Women's Club

Monthly meetings will take place throughout our club year from September to May. Check out the website for when and do come along - your first meeting is complimentary: you'll be so excited by what we are offering we are confident you will sign up before you leave!
